New Look

About 5 months ago I stopped heaving my hair colored. I wasn't taking any chances that the dye would cause an allergic reaction. I also had to stop all honey and nuts. I still don't know what caused the allergic reaction but hopefully time will tell. Here is my new look with my 'growing in" gray hair. Still not quite all in but getting there.

Day 7 of 75

I bought this today at Goodwill.  It will join about 20 more that have made their way to my house (most also from Goodwill).  Another collection...just what I needed.  Done with Stabilo pens.

75 Days in Ink

I started the 75 Days in ink sketching challenge by Brenda Swenson several months ago.  I was on day 46.  Then health problems took over.  Well I started over and hopefully will finish this go-around.

4 days done and only 71 more to go. All my sketches will be done with Stabilo pens.  I have a set of 20 colors.

Wetcanvas Portrait Swap 2012

I finished my partner's portrait for the Annual Portrait Swap for Wetcanvas 2012.  My partner was Carol.  I did her portrait in watercolor and colored pencil (both regular and watercolor). Matted it will fit into an 11x14 inch frame.ere

I had a rough start.  I got the first layer of color on and then just froze.  I had no idea where to go from there.  I finally picked up the colored pencils and it helped me to get going.  I finished it in a few hours tonight.

I would have left off the earrings but she said she always wears earrings.  I could tell she wanted them on so....but they were hard.  I did cheat on the drawing.  I transferred the bits and pieces and the outline from the original.  With all the health issues I have had, I just didn't feel up to doing the drawing myself.

It didn't turn out as I had expected but all in all I am happy with it.  At least I don't hate it.  Now to get it mailed and on to something else.

Still MIA

Sorry to still be missing in action.  Getting over another spell of swelling.  Not as severe as the first one but worse than the second one.  I had a cortisone shot last Thursday and have been on prednisone since Monday.  Eyes still itchy and still a little swelling. Hopefully all will be better soon.

/Don't give up on me.

Cups

I started a new project at Wetcanvas.  It is an ATC trade with the theme of  "Cups".  Up to 20 original mini pieces of art ( 2 1/2 x 3 1/2 inches) and all they have to be is a cup or have a cup in them.  And 4-6 months to complete and mail to the participants.

November Coming Soon

Once again I have joined the annual portrait swap on Wetcanvas.  I will find out later this week who my partner will be.  They will have a challenge this year if I use a current photo as I am letting my hair go to its natural gray color.  It has been about 4-5 months since it was colored.

Dog Portraits

I have been doing some small sized dog portraits for a show.  It will be at a local farmers market and they are having a bunch of dog related vendors.  My dog groomer will be working in a food stand and needed help with another booth she was doing.  So I will be "manning" that one and also showing and hopefully selling some of my little paintings.  I'm also doing some bookmarks take...dog related.

The graphite is from a photo by Andy Mathis on Facebook, the chihuahua is from my photo, and the others are from photos from the Wetcanvas RIL.

Here are a few of the dog portraits.

Bye My Bobo

My cockatiel Bozo passed yesterday.  I will miss her talking in the other room and telling me hello or calling "Here kitty kitty kitty".  I can't believe I will never hear her sweet voice again.  Good bye my sweet Bobo.

I just finished this commission for my niece. Unless there is something she doesn't like. She is on the left, her brother on the right, and their mom in the middle.

Ready for the Year to End

I have nothing but medical issues this year. I am ready for them to stop. I just wish one would end before a second one emerges.

I had suffered a horrible allerlgic reaction that left my face looking like I had had a round with a fighter. Then last week I had a fall. Left me with my left side sore. Not sure If I broke a rib but the soreness felt like it. I'm still dealing with that.

I did get a couple of things finished. One was a painting of a friends's granddog. It is a Boston terrier named Max. It was a gift to her to give to her son.

And I am working on a graphite 3-person portrait for my niece. It will be a gift to her mom for her retirement. It is my niece and her brother each kissing their mom on the cheeks. I haven't worked on it since my fall but hopefully I can get back to it soon.

Derwent Inktense Pencils

I took a class this on how to use Inktense pencils and blocks. We did a small sample on Bristol. then a larger one on watercolor paper, and then on muslin fabric. It was. I have had Inktense pencils for awhile but hadn't much used them. Today when I saw what they can do on fabric, I will be using them more.

I will probably turn this one into a tote bag.

Jeb

I did this painting of Jeb who is a bloodhound. This was done from a photo by Andy Mathis on Facebook of Jeb's first vet appointment. He is a veterinarian and has a vast supply of models to choose from.

I overworked this painting and will probably do it again in future. I have another ref shot to use if I don't want to repeat the same one. He is a beautiful dog and I hope in future, Andy will take a recent photo of him. I would love to see how big and beautiful this dog has become. I love how the photo shows Jeb's future character. The "tired" look that a bloodhound has. Like he is so totally worn out and couldn't move if the house was on fire.

The painting is done in watercolor with some added pen and ink and colored pencil. It is about 11x14 inches on watercolor paper. I may just have to do it in graphite next time.

Thank you Jeb for the pose and cuteness, and thank you Andy for the photo ref and letting me use it.

New Painting

Here is my latest piece of artwork. I will be taking it the art association gallery to change out the one that has been there for months. That one is a puppy portrait.

MIA

Sorry for being MIA. I am fighting some kind of allergic reaction. My face is swelled so badly that you can hardly see my face. Bags under my eyes filled with fluid. Very itchy everywhere. Eyes very red and itchy. It almost looks like a very bad sunburn around my eyes. I will spare you the photo and spare me the embarrassment.

I am taking an online decorative lettering class thanks to a very sweet friend for paying the fee. We are both really enjoying the class and learning a lot.

Here are a few things I have gotten done lately.

It's My Blog Anniversary

Woohoo it's the anniversary of my blog.  I started it 6-19-06.  It has been six years.  I don't post quite as often as I did at first but I think I still manage a good number of posts.  I still enjoy posting and sharing.  And I still enjoy the feedback I get from the comments.

So thank you to each person who visits my blog and especially those who share comments.  I appreciate every one of you.

Thank you, Jeanne

EDiJ #18

EDiJ #18 Draw something that may have another name in a different region.  Purse/Handbag/Bag is also called a "poke".  I even Googled it to make sure.  My aunt used to say she "put something in a poke."  And there is a saying "A pig in a poke".  Of course I'd hate to see a poke large enough to hold a pig.

I have been keeping up with the Every Day in June entries.   I have done 16 of the 18 Black & White ATCs for the trade on Wetcanvas.  And since I don't have enough to do, I signed to do 75 Days Drawing in Pen and Ink.  Any subject and any size.  So far I have done 3 of those.

I am trying to fit anything I do for these projects with the scavenger hunts.  But it has to fit a subject on the list and has to be drawn from life.

I just finished cleaning several areas on my carpet.  With pets around, there is always something that needs cleaning.  Now I have things like baby gates all over to keep the dogs out of the cleaned areas until they dry.  Not too bright on my part to start this at 5pm.  But with high 90s and triple digits, it doesn't take long for things to dry.  Trying to keep things like the clothes you are wearing dry is the hard part.  I don't move around much during those really hot days.  Good excuse for watching tv and doing artwork.

Plein Air at Deanna's

Last week our plein air group went to Deanna's.  She has a beautiful garden and lots of areas that beckon a painter.  I did most of this graphite there on site and finished darkening and shading at home this week.  I still haven't decided if I want to add color or not.

It is my turn to plan the two outings for July and I hope that we can go back to Deanna's again.  I am waiting for her to return my call.  It will be very hot in July but her garden does have a lot of areas with shade.
