More Waiting

Well I still didn't get a definite answer about my infection. My two doctors don't agree on the kind of infection. From the sample they took from the knee, no culture grew. But the infectious disease doctor said he still thinks the knee will have to be removed. And instead of the 6 weeks the surgeon said it would be out, this doctor said the knee would be out and I would be treated for 6 months to a year. As if I wasn't scared about that enough already.

For now, I will continue on the antibiotics for two weeks. Then they will stop them. After that, we wait and see if the infection flares up. I guess the 2 weeks is to see if a lesser infection clears up. Then when they stop the meds, if there is an infection in the bone, it will get worse. He said it could be days, weeks, months. He still thinks that no matter how long it takes, it probably will happen.

So now, I wait. I will be praying very hard for a miracle. And they do happen. It is in God's hands. At least he will be walking with me thru it all.

Jeanne - I'm sorry that they didn't have good news for you. I pray that things will improve for you. All this waiting makes me nervous, I can't imagine how you are coping. It's in God's hands now, but I'll still be praying just as hard. I'm sending a big hug your way...hope you can feel it.

How scary! I'll be thinking of you, I hope the antibiotics do their thing, and fast.

Shari said... I was hoping the Dr. would have a better prognosis about your knee. Tomorrow at church, I will ask for the congregation to pray for you and have the prayer group pray daily, as well as Ron and I, for your knee problems to clear up, or at least get better. We love you, and just cry for all the pain you are going through. Lots of love from us, Ron & Shari

Jeanne - "he still thinks the knee will have to be removed" - do you mean they will have to do the operation again. Not that literally your knee will have to be removed? I didn't quite understand.

I know somebody who also had an infection with a knee replacement - it looked very nasty to start with but the good news is that they got the right drugs going in and it was all sorted out and OK in the end.

I'm assuming they've tested you for the 'nasty' bugs you can get in hospital (MRSA etc)?

That has got to be some scary news indeed. It's too bad the doctors can't figure out what is going on and get the problem squared away. I wonder if you would be up to a third opinion. I'm praying for you.

I'm dismayed to read that you are still in the pits with that knee of yours, Jeanne. I'm not much good at praying but I do believe in the power of positive thought. Like Katherine, I'm putting my positive energy into you getting the right medication to clear this up.
My most sincere best wishes.
