Two New Pieces

I did two more ATCs today. One is Nicolas Cage. I think that one is pretty close to his face. The other is Jack Webb. He played Sargent Friday on the series Dragnet many moons ago. This one is off but I can't seem to get it any closer. So they go in the mail tomorrow. Between the two projects, I have finished about 17. Almost half finished.

This afternoon I went searching for some more distinctive faces. I hope to be doing some more tonight as I have errands to run tomorrow. Right now I am working on the ones who aren't in both trades. Getting those out of the way.

Richard and Bob

Another Pieces card finished. This one is the noses of Richard Nixon and Bob Hope. I think Nixon's nose was even longer than Bob Hope's.

Karl Malden

I finished another "Pieces" card. It is Karl Malden's nose. Well a little more than a nose because it didn't look like a nose until I added a few other pieces to it.

Wetcanvas WDE

I participated in the WDE on the Wetcanvas forum this week. I haven't been doing that for quite some time but I love drawing Lisilk's dog Buddy. This week he was looking out of a car window. One of those frozen moments of time that are great photo ops.

Here is Buddy in the Wind. Just a quick graphite sketch that took about an hour (mostly to get the darks) on a 6 x 6 inch piece of Bristol Smooth.

Apple Season

I got one more Fall/Winter ATC finished today. This one is Apple Season. My mom and I used to travel about 45 minutes to the mountain town of Tehachapi. There was a farm there that had fresh boxes of apples and pears. We would buy a box of each. Plus they had other whatnots there you could purchase like an apple slicer, apple peeler, and jam, cider, etc. Later on they installed a deli there so that we could have a sandwich before returning home. We would spend several hours there.

Now that farm is no more. The last I saw it was a sod farm. Now I'm not sure. There is a mobile home park across the street that my brother and his family live in. Everything has changed. There is still an apple place called the Apple Barn but I have never been there. Maybe one day. But mom can get around very well any more and I have trouble walking. It's just not the same. But my memories are good.

Seven Days

I can't believe it has been 7 days. Where has the time gone. I never intended going that long without posting.

I mailed 6 ATCs out for the trades on Wetcanvas. I sent these 6 to people who are in both trades. Since I had finished 6 cards for each project, I decided to sent to the ones in both trades.

Tonight I made two more cards. I have them ready to mail on Monday. These are Fall/Winter cards. Oh no. I just realized these 2 are in both trades and I am only sending one card. Maybe I will get their pieces card finished tomorrow so that I can mail both together. I need to save some postage.

Here are the two I have finished. One is "Coffee, Tea, or Hot Chocolate" and the other is "Christmas Cactus".

Sketchcrawl

Today was the Worldwide Sketchcrawl. I was too lazy to get dressed and go out, so I did my "crawl" from home. In fact most of it as I sat at my desk. I'm pleased with what I got on paper tho.

Fallen Leaves

My second ATC for the Fall/Winter trade. For a reference, I bought a package of silk leaves that were fall colors at Michaels.

First for Fall/Winter ATC trade

Here is the first one I have finished for one of the new trades I joined in Wetcanvas. I decided to do random things that you see in the fall and winter. The first one is an ear of ornamental corn. I meant to leave a white border like I did with my graphite cards for the other trade. But the colored pencil smudged.

Just Cruisin

No more art to post. I did some sketches on cards for the new project that has yet to be ok'd by Wetcanvas. I don't know why the holdup. Two other projects have been ok'd lately. The sketches I did are more "pieces" of celebrities. I'm trying to do pieces that are recognizable.

I also joined another project that was posted on Wetcanvas. It is a photography project. We got a list of 20 things to find. It is a scavenger hunt. We just have to take a photo of our idea of each item on the project site. Here is the list:

1. Cry me a river
2. A slice of life
3. Poverty central
4. One-eyed monster
5. Picture in the clouds
6. The wrong side of the bed
7. Dust bunnies
8. The wheels on the bus go round and round
9. My eye-opener in the morning
10. Great expectations
11. What a tangled mess!
12. Condensation up close
13. There’s a hole in the bucket
14. What I am reading now
15. A whatzit
16. Mass confusion
17. Dangling by a thread
18. Birds of a feather flock together
19. No useful purpose now
20. When I grow up, I’m gonna be a …

Interesting list, isn't it? I think it will be fun. I'm not sure I will find something for everything, but I will try my best. I already have a couple of ideas. You can find the Photography Scavenger Hunt here: http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/Projects/index.php?cmd=view_details&proj_id=1250.

Klinger's Nose

I worked on another face part tonight. ATC size in graphite. It is the nose of Klinger from the tv show MASH, actor Jamie Farr. I'm trying to do different facial features so that I can get used to doing a wide variety. I don't want to do just pretty parts but unique ones with character.

I submitted a new project on Wetcanvas to help me keep moving on my "body" parts. It is called "Pieces". Pieces of anything the participants want to do. I am doing Pieces of faces or body parts...human and possible animal. I have two finished now. The eye and the nose. I will probably do parts of famous people. Makes it more interesting.

I am not sure if I will branch out to body parts or animals yet. I guess it will depend on how many interesting ones I find of the face. I was surfing tonight looking for "pieces". I don't really like doing ears (but maybe Spock's ears) so may pass on those. And I had trouble finding mouths. Of course there will be one of Angelina Jolie. What would mouths be without hers. I'm trying to pick parts that define the person's identity. At least the recognizable parts of them. Bob Hope and Jimmy Durante's noses. George Clooney's and Nicolas Cage's eyes. Just about any part of Elvis's face.

My hubby said he would probably have know Sean Connery's eye even if I hadn't said. But I'm not sure the same can be said about Klinger's nose. It does look like the photos I saw of him.

I will be doing these cards for the new project in graphite and ATC size (2.5 x3.5 inches). Every so often I like to get in some practice in graphite. Plus I find it so satisfying to make things with graphite. It just feels like coming home.

Rufus

Every year in May, we attend an annual barbecue at some friends' house up in the mountains. It is a 3-day campout. They have up to 20 tents, trailers, motor homes, etc parked there for the weekend. A nice time is had by all. Potluck meals every day. Saturday is the main barbecue and it's great to have so many choices. As soon as the main dish/salads are taken away, here come the desserts. Many, many desserts.

Most of the campers bring their dogs with them. This is Rufus. One of the dogs I enjoy seeing each year. He now has a sister that looks like my Dizzy.

This is a photo of him that I took in May at the barbecue. My drawing is being done in graphite and colored pencil. 5x7 size on Bristol smooth.

Today my nephew's new baby daughter was born. She is Kylie Austyn and weighed 6lbs 3oz and was 18 inches long. She will be in the hospital for a few days as her mama had to have a C-section. Daddy is proud as punch and taking 4 hours feedings thru the night so mama can rest. He may as well get used to it as it will probably be the normal for the next couple months. Sleep is a thing of the past. Welcome to the world Kylie.
