Watercolor

Well I tried some watercolor today. Not a good result. Here is a flower I just made up. I noticed when I scanned it that I forgot to finish the inkwork on some petals. Oh well. I still tend to use the paint almost full strength like when using oils. The water part just stumps me. I just don't get it. In person the flower looks almost like velvet. I don't know how that happened but I like the look of it. And as usual when doing any kind of painting, I find the process too messy. Makes me appreciate my graphite and colored pencil.

Jeanne, You got some nice rich colors here, and texture on the petals too. Don't give up on the watercolors. I'm sure it took you a long time to learn to draw. You just need to give yourself time to practice.

Don't give up the watercolours yet, they're probably the trickiest painting medium but one of the most rewarding once you learn some of the special techniques, that don't work or at least not as well with the other painting media.

I forget the name of the book but there's one by Zoltan Szabo that was really helpful in learning all the different techniques. That was over 20 years ago so there's probably a million newer ones too!

Thanks both of you. It is frustrating. And most of the ladies I plein air with have them conquered. I just get frustrated because I am an instant gratification kind of person. I will look for the Szabo book.

I did go to the library yesterday and checked out every watercolor book they had. About 7 of them.

Joan I am glad I don't have to use the library computer because they were just full of kids. And someone was calling out names so they must have been taking turns.
