September Virtual Sketch Date

I really struggled this month with the photo. I am not happy with my results, but after adding the background, I can live with it. I didn't plan to do a background but found it needed one. Thank you to Sharon for providing the reference.

Please visit the Virtual Sketch Date link on the side to browse thru all the other blogs and artists who participated this month.

Jeanne, I think a lot of us struggled with this reference and were less than satisfied with our own results. I know I'm in that boat. But I think your entry is lovely and can't see any struggles there. The dark background really sets off the light petals with their lovely pink color.

You say you struggled but it doesn't show. This is great and I like the ink touches. Very nice.

I don't think you should be too hard on yourself Jeanne, this works better than you can see in my opinion.

I think this came out very well Jeanne. The colours are great and defining it with ink brings it into strong focus. What medium did you use? CP or watercolour pencils?

I had challenges with the reference too. Flowers are always very complex for me to draw or paint.

It was a very difficult challenge indeed and you have done a brilliant job. I agree, putting that dark background in, really gives it oomph. Fabulous sketch!

the dark background really makes the petals you drew jump off the page. Well done :)

Jeanne, I think the ink on the petals and the dark background really show off the beautiful shape of those petals...that was my favorite part of the photos. I really think you've captured that beauty.

It puts me in mind of a hand colored etching, a botanical drawing.
The dark background was the challenge! I found myself bargaining with my "inner artist" to "please don't make me draw that dark part." :)

The background does make it stand out - it looks really good! And the petals are very softly done.

Lovely pencil rendering.....each piece offers it's own gifts and lessons, I find. I think it's really lovely.....Flowers aren't my thing either, but we are all in this for the challenge as well as the fun, eh?

The dark background makes the beautiful pink color in the flower pop out.

I struggled with it too. That's why I kept putting off working on it. I think you did a great job.

I really like the "petal work" in this one. We all seemed to have a difficult time with this one but I think our results are great.

It has a nice gentleness to it that I like. I'm glad you added the dark background because that really shows off your delicate work.
